Job Overview
Landscape Construction Apprentices assist qualified tradespeople on outdoor building and garden construction projects. You’ll learn to read plans, operate tools, build outdoor structures, install irrigation, and shape natural materials — all while working toward a nationally recognised trade qualification. This is a physically active, outdoor role ideal for people who like working with their hands, solving on-site challenges, and building something they can be proud of. You’ll gain hands-on experience on real sites, supported by your team and structured training through a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO).Apprenticeships combine paid work with formal study and are a key pathway to becoming a qualified, licensed Structural Landscape Tradesperson in Queensland

Tasks & Duties
Assist with site preparation including setting out, excavation, levelling, and drainage
Help build outdoor features like retaining walls, fencing, paving, pergolas, and garden beds
Installing turf, plants, soil, mulch, and irrigation systems
Prepare garden beds and install turf, soil, mulch, and plants
Support the setup of basic irrigation systems and drainage solutions
Use hand tools and power equipment safely under supervision (with training provided)
Learn to read site plans, measurements, and construction drawings
Work closely with your team and supervisor to meet daily goals
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised site throughout the workday
Attend training sessions, complete assessments, and apply your learning on the job
How to Become a Landscape Construction Apprentice
Start your landscaping career with a paid apprenticeship while completing a Certificate III in Landscape Construction (AHC30921) — the nationally recognised qualification for this trade.
Delivered through a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO), this course combines full-time, hands-on work with structured study over 3–4 years. You’ll develop practical skills in construction, paving, timberwork, drainage, and more — all while gaining the experience needed to become a qualified Structural Landscaper.
In Queensland, this qualification also enables you to apply for a QBCC Structural Landscaping Licence, required for many construction-based roles.

Already Working in Landscaping?
If you’ve been working as a labourer or trade assistant, you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This process allows experienced workers to have their skills formally assessed and credited toward the qualification — helping you fast-track your pathway to becoming qualified.

- White Card (Construction Induction) Mandatory to work on active construction and landscaping sites.
- Driver’s Licence Often required for accessing sites, transporting materials, or towing small trailers.
